4.3. How to Monitor Your First Database

If everything is running smoothly and the web frontend is launched, follow these steps:

4.3.1. Step 1: Setting Up a Remote Node in the Speedgain configuration for the host where your Database is running

  1. Access the Speedgain configuration interface using your admin credentials and go to the Nodes tab.

  2. If needed, create a new remote node by clicking the "+" symbol at the bottom left corner. You only require one remote node if you have multiple databases installed on it for monitoring purposes.

  3. Enter an appropriate display name and provide the hostname or IP address of the server where the database is located. Optionally, configure additional fields. For the port intended for OS monitoring, set it to 22. Select the operating system type for the remote system. Note that additional steps may be required for OS monitoring, such as setting up SSH access.

  4. Save the configuration.

4.3.2. Step 2: Setting Up a Database Login in the Speedgain Configuration

  1. In the Speedgain configuration interface, navigate to the Logins tab.

  2. Click on the "+" symbol at the bottom left to create a new login configuration, where you provide the necessary credentials for the database you want to monitor.

  3. Enter an appropriate display name.

  4. Save the login configuration.

4.3.3. Step 3: Setting Up a Database in the Speedgain Configuration

  1. In the Speedgain configuration interface, go to the Databases tab.

  2. Click on the "+" symbol at the bottom left to create a new database configuration.

  3. Choose your target database management system (DBMS).

  4. Select the remote node created in Step 1.

  5. Choose the login created in Step 2.

  6. Fill out all necessary parameters required for your specific database.

  7. Enter an appropriate display name.

  8. Select an appropriate monitoring policy.

  9. If you want to initiate monitoring immediately, check the enabled checkbox.

  10. Save the configuration.

4.3.4. Step 4: Start Analyzing Your Database

  1. Navigate to the Speedgain start page by clicking on the header link "ITGAIN Speedgain for Databases."

  2. Click on "Overview Dashboards" located in the top right corner.

  3. Choose the suitable database overview dashboard from the options.

  4. Begin analyzing your database. Please note that it may take a few moments until the performance data becomes available.
